Thomas Readett is an Emerging Artist from Adelaide, South Australia currently working on Tarnanthi, as an Education Officer at the Art Gallery of South Australia.

Thomas has been a drawer his entire life ever since he was a child.  Wanting to further his career as a professional artist he enrolled into Adelaide Central School of Art in 2011, and it was then his passion for painting began. This is now one of his main practices among others. Thomas graduated from his studies at Adelaide Central School of Art completing his Associate Degree and Bachelor of Visual Arts Degree (BVA) in 2015. During his time at Adelaide Central School of Art he held group shows with fellow graduates and ended the degree with his final body of video work based around ideas of Solitude and a personal journey through his identity. Thomas has since exhibited solo shows "Beneath the Skin", "Dark Light" and "From Within"

Jay's take on Thomas Readett

I've only known our featued artist, Thomas Readett, since October 2016, when I attended an oil painting class that he was running. I remember it was a halloween themed still life, that featured a skull, jack 'o' lantern and a Jack Skellington head. That did it for me; anyone that uses props like that for a still life has got to be awesome. The other thing that I really admired about Tom, was his encouragement and ability to teach in a way that was achievable and fun.

Well I kept in touch with Tom and frequently hung out in his studio down in Port Adelaide. This led to me taking classes with Tom, to work on my painting. However, most classes turned into us just grabbing a beer and chatting - and not a lot of painting got done.

Tom was a phenomenal artist when I first met him, but in the last three years he's grown exponentially in his skills and has added large scale, public mural painting (street art) to his practice. You can see his work at various locations around Adelaide; with the largest to date, being a huge 50m+ long wall at the new Lights Community and Sports Centre in Lightsview, that he collaborated with Elizabeth Close on.

If this isn't enough, Tom also has a full time job at the Art Gallery of South Australia, as their Tarnanthi Education Officer; where he educates students and their teachers about the importance of Aboriginal art and culture.

As I have already mentioned, Tom is an extremely encouraging person and it is because of his belief in me and his reassurance, that has pushed me from my comfort zone to start up strukture skateboards.

Cheers Tom, for being part of the strukture skateboards community... Love you heaps my brother.
